Suvremeni srpski prozaik Dragan Velikić poznat je hrvatskim čitateljima još iz razdoblja postojanja zajedničke države. Njegovi rani romani Via Pula i Astragan (tiskan u renomiranoj biblioteci HIT zagrebačkoga Znanja) imali su velik odjek i u našoj sredini, to više što se Velikić bavio gradom Pulom, koji ima povlašteno mjesto u njegovu literarnom imaginariju. Devedesetih je Velikić postigao zavidnu međunarodnu karijeru, osobito na njemačkome govornom području, gdje mu je preveden doslovno cijeli književni opus. Unatoč rafiniranosti autorskoga intelektualističkog rukopisa, Velikićevi su romani dopirali i do šire publike te u pravilu doživljavali više izdanja. Posljednji roman Ruski prozor (2007.) doživio je najveći uspjeh: ubrzo nakon objavljivanja dobio je dvije ugledne nagrade: NIN-ovu i nagradu Mesa Selimović. Dosad je tiskano čak deset izdanja i prodano petnaest tisuća primjeraka knjige. Taj trodijelni roman-omnibus govori o egzilantsko-pikarskoj sudbini Rudija Stupara, koji potkraj devedesetih bježi iz Miloševićeva Beograda, potucajući se po raznim europskim gradovima. On promišlja srpsku turobnu stvarnost, ali - kao da gleda kroz mali ruski prozor (fortočku) - prisjeća se i prošlosti; pripovijedano je to narativnom tehnikom koja je neke kritičare podsjetila na Proljeća Ivana Galeba Vladana Desnice.
