Sporedan detalj započinje u ljeto 1949, godinu dana nakon Nakbe, katastrofe koja je dovela do raseljavanja i protjerivanja više od sedamsto hiljada Palestinaca. Izraelski vojnici u neplodnoj pustinji Negev napadaju grupu beduina i brutalno ubijaju sve osim jedne djevojke. Nju zarobe, siluju, a potom, u jutro 13. augusta, ubiju i zakopaju u pijesak. Godinama kasnije, u današnje vrijeme, mlada žena iz Ramallaha slučajno saznaje za ovaj događaj. Opčinjena je, čak i opsjednuta, ne samo brutalnošću zločina, već i tim što je počinjen tačno dvadeset pet godina prije dana njenog rođenja. Iako je u pisanju historije slučaj zabilježen kao sporedan detalj, drugi sporedan detalj, onaj koji njen život povezuje sa životom stradale djevojke, odvodi je na rizično putovanje...
