About the Book

Prošlost Modruša bila je mnogo slavnija i značajnija od njegove današnjice. Uz grad Modruš i modruške događaje vezana je povijest uže i šire njegove okolice. Kroz cijelo hrvatsko srednjovjekovlje, sve do turskih ratova, Modruš je bio najveći i najznačajniji grad na putu između Zagreba i Senja, a »Modruški put« bila je najvažnija prometnica koja je spajala sjevernu Hrvatsku s Jadranskim morem. Bilo je to tako i prije dolaska i naseljavanja Hrvata, u vrijeme ranog doba hrvatske srednjovjekovne povijesti, u vrijeme razvijenog feudalizma, pa sve do najnovijega doba hrvatske suvremenosti. Mnogi su do sada pisali o starom Modrušu. Ipak još nemamo cjelovito napisane povijesti ovoga slavnoga grada. Nema njegove znanstveno napisane povijestnice najviše zato, jer nije bilo ni potrebnih arheoloških istraživanja materijalnih ostataka modruških spomenika, niti sistematskog istraživanja pisanih svjedočanstava njegove prošlosti. U ovom ćemo dakle prikazu najprije sabrati sva važnija do sada napisana saznanja o povijesti Modruša, a onda ih proširiti i dopuniti rezultatima novijih i vlastitih istraživanja i spoznaja.
