Gospodin Crepsley iznenada odlučuje kako je vrijeme da Darrena predstavi Savjetu vampirskih generala koji se sastaje samo jednom u dvanaest godina. Darrena opet čeka put u nepoznato. O Vampirskoj planini i Savjetu zna samo ono što je čuo od gospodina Crepsleyja. Zna da vampirima vladaju vojnici zvani vampirski generali koji vode brigu o poštivanju zakona. Oni ubijaju lude ili zle vampire i kontroliraju ponašanje ostalih živih mrtvaca. Gospodin Crepsley bio je vampirski general, ali je odavno prestao, iz razloga koje nikad nije otkrio. Darren ne zna gdje se nalazi Vampirska planina niti tvrđava u kojoj se generali sastaju. Ne zna zašto mora biti predstavljen Savjetu niti što je potaknulo gospodina Crepsleyja da tako naglo odluči krenuti na put prema Vampirskoj planini. Pred Darrenom je dugo i teško putovanje na kojem će dobiti odgovore na ova i mnoga druga pitanja.
