About the Book

The chronicle of the Jewish family from Murska Sobota is the true story of the Prekmurje family Pollak. Bojan Zadravec dedicated the book to the youngest family member Vladek, who died in Auschwitz on May 22, 1944, and this year he would be 80 years old. The book is not only the story of Pollaks, but the story of the Jews from the town of Murska Sobota. After all, the book is a memory of them. The book is corroborated by the descriptions of Jewish holidays and historical milestones since 1887, when the author began the story, and until 1944, when the lives of most members of the Jewish communities of Murska Sobota and Lendava ended in gas cells. Vladek's path to the unknown is the first work that speaks about the daily life of the Jews on our soil, since the author illuminates the problem of the Holocaust from a completely different angle, to life before the war. This idea is very strong, especially since it is complemented with photographs.
