Temeljen na stvarnoj priči, Ženski krug dame Tan hit-autorice Lise See krasno je napisan roman o ženi koja je bila značajna u vrijeme dinastije Ming, a bila bi iznimna i u današnje doba, kao i o ženama koje pomažu jedne drugima. Oči joj sjaje dok izgovara osnovnu istinu: “Žena je žena, bila rođena u prašini ili svili.” Prema Konfucijevim riječima „obrazovana je žena beskorisna žena”, ali Tan Yunxian, djevojku iz ugledne obitelji, djed i baka odgajaju da bude korisna, odnosno obrazovana. Njezina je baka, naime, jedna od tek nekolicine liječnica u Kini i ona je ta koja svoju unuku uči osnovama kineske medicine. Yunxian, uz Meiling, mladu vježbenicu za primalju, od djetinjstva tako uči o ženskim bolestima, a djevojčice ubrzo postaju prijateljice. Nakon udaje, svekrva Yunxian zabranjuje viđanje s Meiling, ali i pomaganje ženama i djevojkama u kućanstvu.
