Knjiga je namijenjena kršćanima i Židovima koji žele promišljati o zajedničkoj, često turbulentnoj povijesti, o sadašnjim međusobnim odnosima, kao i o budućnosti tih odnosa. Način na koji kršćani i Židovi sami sebe shvaćaju, njihov odnos jednih prema drugima ili jednih pored drugih, ili jednih protiv drugih, zbog budućnosti čovječanstva ne smije se podcijeniti. Autor u ovoj knjizi nastoji pokazati da Židovi i kršćani, temeljem svoje povijesti koju mogu zahvaliti jednom Božjem djelovanju, pripadaju jednom jedinom narodu jednoga jedinog Boga. Bog okuplja svoj narod od Abrahama do kraja vremena – kao blagoslov za cijeli svijet. Židovi i kršćani govore o »Abrahamu, našem ocu«. Tko potječe od istoga Oca, pripada istoj obitelji, »djeci Abrahamovoj«. Isus, Židov, Izrael je htio okupiti – ne razdijeliti; u Njegovo ime mogli su se vjernici iz naroda okupiti u jedan Božji narod. Od Drugoga vatikanskog sabora raste sjećanje na jedinstvenost Božjega naroda.
