Ljubezensko zgodbo, napisano v obliki pisem, ki sta si jih pošiljala Breda in Roman Gašperin v času njegovega služenja vojaškega roka v JLA med letoma 1983 in 1984, je navdihnilo Življenje. Besedila odstirajo pogled v kasarno, v vsakodnevna opravila, prikazujejo odnose med vojaki in oficirji in humorne zaplete, na drugi strani pa čakanje dekleta vpetega v delo in študij. Mladi par so eno leto povezovala samo pisma, ki sta si jih redno izmenjevala. V njih sta odštevala dneve do vrnitve domov, si delila dobre in slabe trenutke vsakdana in sanjala o prihodnosti, ko bosta lahko v polnosti zaživela in uresničila sanje o skupnem življenju.
