Kazati za ovaj rukopis da on nudi čitanje romana Američka tragedija američkog romanopisca T. Dreisera samo djelomice opisuje autorov uradak. Naime, pored toga što Skračić ispisuje uvjerljivu interpretaciju teksta, on ga pozicionira unutar tradicije pikaro romana nakon što je tu istu tradiciju postavio u filozofijsko-književnoteorijsko obzorje Zapada. Ocrtavši glavne silnice te tradicije, on svoju interpretaciju izvodi u stalnom i dojmljivom intertekstualnom dijalogu u kojemu sudjeluju predstavnici niza europskih nacionalnih književnosti. Stoga se doista može ustvrditi da je riječ o egzemplarnoj komparatističkoj studiji koja treba, kao što autor kaže, „jednu posebnu heuristiku koja zapolazište ima konkretan slučaj a za cilj jednu općenitiju pretpostavku.“ Konkretan slučaj Dreiserova romana je iščitan s osjećajem za književni artefakt, dok se cilj realizirao iscrpnim opisom strukture žanra ali i njegovih povijesnih mijena i funkcija koje je imao u različitim društveno kulturalnim sredinama.
