Iako pod utjecajem klasičnih poetika antike i renesanse, a posebice pod utjecajem formalističkih njemačkih estetika, izdvaja se nekoliko nezaobilaznih filološko-filozofskih tekstova o naravi književnosti, općim pravilima o dobro sačinjenoj tvorevini i o izdvojenim žanrovima kao modelima pretvaranja zbilje u estetički ideal. Bez obzira na to što posrijedi nisu originalne filozofijske studije, one su u našem kulturnom prostoru u to vrijeme bule prvi tekstovi u novijoj hrvatskoj književnosti koji raspravljaju o umjetnički savršenom, izvan pritisaka političko-nacionalnih programa i interesa stranaka i pojedinaca. Riječ je o tekstovima: Ognjeslav Utješinović: Ostrožinski, Misli o krasnijeh umjetnosti 1845., Emanuel Sladović: Uputa u pjesmenu umjetnost 1852., Ivan Macun, Kratko krasoslovje 1852., August Šenoa: Poetika, predgovor Antologiji pjesništva hrvatskoga i srpskoga 1876., Janko Jurković: O narodnom komusu 1869., Janko Jurković: Ob estetičkih pojmovih uzvišena 1870., Janko Jurković: O ženskih karakterih u naših narodnih pjesmah 1874., Janko Jurković: O metafori našeg jezika 1875. Sve one nikad dosad nisu bile tiskane nakon njihove prve objave pa ih i najveći dio filološke struke malo ili nikako ne poznaje. Puni naslov izbora glasi: Estetičke i poetičke rasprave u hrvatskoj književnosti 19. stoljeća.
