Kada je prije deset godina ova knjiga prvi put objavljena, naišla je na veliki interes hrvatske čitalačke publike. Taj interes nije splasnuo ni nakon što je cijela naklada bila rasprodana, a opetovani upiti doveli su do njenog novog izdanja u većem formatu i s bogatijim sadržajem, i to baš u godini 450. obljetnice Seljačke bune. To i ne treba čuditi budući da je tema knjige jedan od najpoznatijih događaja hrvatske povijesti – Seljačka buna Matije Gupca. Politički pokreti 20. stoljeća Matiju Gupca podigli su na povijesni pijedestal na kojemu se nalazi i danas. Ideologijama tih političkih pokreta lik Matije Gupca, seljaka, ustanika i borca za prava potlačenih masa, predstavljao je svojevrsnu ikonu koja je svojom karizmatičnom snagom i sudbinom s lakoćom privlačila simpatije hrvatskog naroda 20. stoljeća. Tako je lik Matije Gupca, prizvan iz romansirane prošlosti Šenoinog romana, prerastao u svojevrstan kult totalitarnih režima koji su harali Hrvatskom 20. stoljeća. Iako je nedvojbeno da Matija Gubec i Seljačka buna koja se zbila 1573. godine svoju povijesnu popularnost duguju političkim ciljevima 20. stoljeća, ova činjenica tom povijesnom događaju ne umanjuje njegov značaj.
